The role of the Project Estimator is to understand construction contracts and terminology while using estimating techniques and best practices to read schedules, and navigate project plans while showing creativity and resourcefulness. You will be responsible for obtaining pricing, reviewing bid requirements thoroughly, and asking follow-up questions on every bid. Communication and relationship development, especially with subcontractors is a vital part of this role.
Responsibilities Include:
Use standardized tools and processes to prepare comprehensive, accurate, and competitive estimates of project cost and schedule
Recognize and recommend alternative designs/scope definitions which support consistency, standardization, and cost
Read, understand, and recognize discrepancies in contract terms
Review scopes of work within a proposal to obtain bids from sub-contractors
Review project requirements and estimate quantities
Preparation of accurate conceptual cost models, budgets, and guaranteed maximum pricing
Documentation of cost and schedule in support of the bidding process, summarize and put into a proposal form, and provide complete project estimate backup
Ensure estimating quality and procedures are maintained
Gather details and maintain current market data necessary to accurately estimate construction, material, and soft costs associated with projects
Recognize opportunities and take initiative to produce positive outcomes
Requirements:
Ability to read/interpret blueprints and schematics
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Project, and Outlook
Bachelors or Associates degree in construction management or engineering is a plus
Some estimating experience preferred
The ideal candidate for this role will demonstrate a complete understanding of construction contracts and terminology, as well as estimating strategies and techniques with an excellent working knowledge of design, procurement, and field processes and their inherent cost performance risks. This role requires a creative thinker and problem solver with the ability to propose innovative, non-standard solutions.
